A few years ago I was lucky enough to take my wife and kids to Europe. Included in this trip was a day-long tour of the American invasion beaches. It was a private tour, just the 5 of us and the guide. We did St Mere Eglise and the D-Day museum there, Utah and Omaha beaches, Pointe du Hoc, and ended at the American Cemetery. Since I hang around on this site, it's easy to guess that it was one of the high points of my trip. But what's not as expected is that both of my daughters, aged 15 and 17 at the time, also said it was the high point of theirs. Our guide was an excellent professional, and knowledgeable enough to go toe to toe with me on this stuff. If you've got the opportunity, I can't recommend it enough.
Our guide was a gentleman name Stewart Robertson, an Brit who got hooked on Normandy while escorting some veterans there while in the royal artillery. He ended up moving there, and eventually started his own guide business.
Here's his website:

and here are reviews on Tripadvisor:

Not too many things get all 100% excellent reviews (ok, someone did give him a very good)....
Sorry for the lengthy post, but this is totally worth it. Some day, I'm going to go back and do the British section as well. Probably bring this guy along...
