• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

US Forces- Spanish American War c.1898

Brigade Commander
US Forces in the Spanish American War
c.1898

Here is a group of 12 figures put together over the last six months or so.
Used some images from the internet and some of the images on the Osprey reference books. I’m not claiming that they are perfect renditions, but as a group gives a feel of what the US forces looked like during the Spanish American War in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Phillipines. For parts the bulk of the SAW specific parts are from BGT. Nude bodies are from DML and the HS are from DML, DID and anything else that was in my parts box. The hats are from BGT, pith helmet from Tony Barton and most others from Steve O Toys. I really like Steve’s hats as they have some heft to them. Just getting used to them, but hope to use them for other 19th century figures in the future.

Thanks guys! Sadly no parts available for any Spanish or colonial types. Very distinctive fabric used, still unavailable in 1/6.

A beautiful selection of soldiers from a completely neglected area of the hobby!
Magnificent work Egon!

These guys look great, Eduardo!

Makes me think of the TV movie The Rough Riders - I loved watching it as a kid.

I like the variations between the different branches and units. The figures kitted out in the BGT stuff coupled with Tony's pith helmet and Steve O Toys hats are great!

Well done!

Fred

top notch Eduardo, great mix of custom uniforms and kit. They're one of a kind for sure. I'm curious about the collar device on your cavalry figure. Do BGT tunics come with rank and collar devices or did you get those somewhere else?
Once again excellent work.

Thanks guys!
The devices on the officers are from a set, I believe for WWII types from a firm called Lion Roar. Forgot to mention it in the post. One set comes with Lieutenant and captain;s bars and mayors rank. Also comes with discs that have crossed sabres, pistols, rifles and cannon. Used the crossed sabres and the US for the cavalry captain. Then used the rank on the base of the shoulderboards. As I mentioned not accurate, but better than nothing.
Interrestingly the captains tunic, on some of the images seems to be stained. That pattern showed up int he images and is not on the actual figure. Once in a while you get one of those odd things in photographs. More noticeable in the closeups. Very odd. I once posted a panzer officer and the trousers looked purple. I ended up discarding those trousers after I took images of all those I had saved. The purple would only show in the images. You could not tell a pair of real black and of purple with th just looking at them... Of course I do not remember which figure it was, but it was the only (of course!) Heer non piped panzer regular release! That makes the special Kurzmaul release uniform PURE GOLD at least for me. Not many of those around, in part my fault!
Of course you can always paint the piping black of any of the gazillion piped Heer panzer tunics and it works ok, but that woill have to do once the Kurzmaul pieces are gone...

Que siga la fiesta!

When did the US navy start putting the 3 white stripes on the collars?.... nice set of the rough riders

The stripes on the collars were an insignia of rank at the time of the War Between the States (Number of stripes indicated a junior sailors rank, as I remember). Later (By WWI, at least) they were a decoration of three stripes with the rank on the sleeve.
